Can Policy Crediting deliver what it promises?

29 April 2024

Workshop with the participation of leading experts

Starts at 17.00 until 19:00

While policy crediting is often seen as an innovative approach with the potential to drive and accelerate the global energy transition, there are widespread concerns regarding applied crediting methodologies and related challenges. Therefore, the next Zurich Carbon Market Association event will address and discuss potential and challenges of policy crediting using the example of the World Bank’s first policy crediting project, the Innovative Carbon Resource Application for Energy Transition Project for Uzbekistan (iCraft). iCraft’s intention is to support and incentivize energy subsidy reform that will result in lower energy consumption and GHG emissions, consequently generating carbon emission reduction credits, which can be sold in international carbon markets.

  • Axel Michaelowa (Perspectives): Policy and sectoral crediting – key opportunities and challenges
  • Gil Nemesh (Gold Standard): The Gold Standard’s approach to policy crediting
  • Nuyi Tao (World Bank Group): First results and lessons learned with policy crediting under TCAF: the example of the Uzbekistan iCRAFT program
  • Klaus Oppermann (World Bank Group): Next steps on policy crediting under WB carbon crediting facilities
